Bio

Casting ballotPatrick (Paddy) Maphoso has lived in Ireland since 2001 and is a well-established champion of immigrants and working people.

Steeped in the trade union tradition of his native South Africa, Patrick has continued to work tirelessly for equality in Ireland and has taken up many cases of exploitation in the workplace.

Establishing a small business operating out of Moore Street has placed him at the heart of a community that was excluded from the benefits of the Celtic Tiger economy. In June 2009 he stood as an Independent candidate for Dublin North Inner City in a campaign centred on social inclusion, with a strong emphasis on anti-discrimination and anti-racism.

A keen soccer fan, Patrick established the African Schools Sports Aid (ASSA) in 2007.  He is looking forward to the 2010 World Cup in his native South Africa and believes it will be one of the world’s greatest ever sporting events.
