WHEN AND WHERE TO VOTE
When are the elections?
Friday, 5th June 2009. Local elections will be held in all the counties of the Republic on this date, along with elections to the European Parliament.
When are the polls open?
Polling stations open at 7am and close at 10pm.
Where do I vote?
About a week before the election you will receive a polling card by post. This will give details of your polling station – the place where you can go to vote.
HOW TO VOTE
What should I take?
Bring the polling card you received in the post and some form of photographic identification, like a passport.
What should I do when I arrive?
Go to the desk to be marked off the register (you may need to show your identification). You will be given a ballot paper.
How is the ballot laid out?
The ballot paper displays the names of all the candidates in alphabetical order. It will also show their photographs and any political party they belong to.
How do I fill out the ballot paper?
In the polling booth, write 1 beside the name of your first choice, 2 beside the name of your second choice, 3 beside your third choice and so on.
How many candidates should I vote for?
In the Dublin North Inner City ward, six candidates will be elected. You can make as many choices as you wish by numbering your preferences.
How do I submit my vote?
Fold your ballot paper and place it in the the ballot box.
